Gracious Doe

Gracious Doe

I wake before dawn and drift toward the forest opening.
Sweet familiarity resounds through the blazing sky: the
shrill crows' caw, the gleeful sounds of the red-winged
blackbirds, and alas my heart is carried afar by the multifaceted
melody of the cardinal perched in a shady oak and proclaiming
life and love for his mate! I stop to slake at a crystal pool
and spy my reflection on its glassy surface. My head is crowned
with thorny antlers, however, smaller than those of my
forest brethren. Feeling awkward and a bit self-conscious
at the brown-eyed buck in the lake staring back at me, Ipm
startled by the delicate wispy crackle in the brush behind
me. I stand transfixed: part fear, part excitement, as
a magnificent creature gracefully appears from the thicket
behind me. She is frightened by my presence but self-confident
enough to gaze fully into my eyes. Wild passion envelops
my soul as she lowers her guard and delicately glides toward
me. Her musk fills the air and sends my heart soaring, like
the heavenly eagles far atop my woody knoll. Close enough
to taste her scent, she caresses the main of my neck with
her sweet velvety cloak. I am hers and abruptly break into
a gallop following her feminine sweetness and white tail
as is bounces playfully through the briar. She has captivated
my soul, the promise of her womanhood has rendered me helplessly
in her pursuit for all eternity!
